June 28, 2013 at 7:26 pm
Each year Blackpool comes together on National Armed Forces Day to celebrate with a fun display of entertainment courtesy of current military servicemen and women. On Saturday 29th of June the crowd will hear the band of the King’s Division and the Irish Guard Singers perform live. Military memorabilia includes an awesome chance to see classic military vehicles up close, attend educational talks and enjoy a RAF Spitfire flypast. The atmosphere is wonderful and everything is free to attend and enjoy. Make sure you secure a booking at The Carn Brae Hotel as we are firm supporters of our veterans and serving military personnel. National Armed Forces Memorial Service Day Held on Sunday 30th of June the highlight of the week of celebrations is the National Armed Forces Day  Memorial Service outdoors at the Blackpool Cenotaph. This beautiful Grade 2 listed war memorial is located on the Blackpool Promenade near the North Pier. From the starting point at St John's in Blackpool Town Centre, the armed forces parade provides an opportunity for onlookers to wave their flags and show the best of British. At the Cenotaph a moving display of images and film from the World Wars and Wars around the world today is shown, providing everyone with the chance to reflect on the brilliant job our soldiers do around the globe. Former and current servicemen and women along with army cadet forces will oversee the naming of fallen soldiers from the Blackpool area who will be remembered from now onwards through inscription on the Cenotaph. Show Your Support for the Armed Forces in Blackpool Town Centre Members of the public, families of current and former servicemen and women and of course, members of the armed forces are encouraged to attend the events to celebrate and show support for the British Army. National Armed Forces Day comes at the end of a week of celebration, with many having attended the Gala Dinner at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom for serving and ex-serving military personnel the evening before.
