The newest attraction at Blackpool Winter Gardens is the Illumiasia Light Display, which represents the world’s largest illuminations. The Olympia Exhibition Hall is now transformed into an amazing fantasy light display you can see all year around. A Unique Partnership The Illuminasia planning team combined the best artisans behind Blackpool’s annual Illuminations with funding from government, media and local business sources to create a hard standing light display. The whole exhibit took 56 days to construct, and shows off six zones called The Mysteries of China, The Blackpool Experience, The Planetarium, Land of the Giants, The Deep and The Wonders of the World. Illuminasia Display Materials A team of 60 artisans have worked incredibly hard to create and construct display animals, scenes and settings including huge blades of grass, super-sized sharks, and large replicas of famous Blackpool sites. In the Land of the Giants exhibit you will see enormous bugs and beasties standing well over four metres tall. The raw materials used to construct the variety of display pieces include silk, steel, cabling, copper wire, and LED lights in their thousands. UK cabinet member for Tourism Graham Cain launched the Illuminasia project saying “This is an incredibly exciting project and the type of attraction that only an expansive space like the Winter Gardens can accommodate.” Illuminasia will be the largest indoor light display of ambition in the world, and is designed to be a sister attraction to the Illuminations. The Illuminasia exhibitions will be open all year around with only some minor closures due to maintenance or the addition of new displays.
