Open Golf Championship 2011

Held in July at the Royal-St-George grounds in Kent, the Open Golf Championship for 2011 was won by Ulsterman, Darren Clarke. On accepting his prize he said, “I’ve been writing this speech for twenty years now.” A much admired player and gentleman of the game, Clarke was a popular win with the home crowd. Next year, Lytham-St-Annes will host the Open Golf Championship. Lancashire is proud to have been selected for the event, which will be held at the Royal Lytham and St-Annes Golf Club. Situated just a few miles south of the Blackpool South Pier, the tiny township of Lytham-St-Annes expects over 250,000 visitors for the Open Golf Championships, which is one of the big four professional circuit tournaments in the world. It is the only tournament held outside the USA, and will attract a hoard of international visitors. Visiting for the Golf If you want join in the fun of everything golf, the Open Golf Championship is sure to be a special event in 2012. The usual United Kingdom visitors to Blackpool for the summer will experience a different feel next year, with the injection of international tourism. At the bare minimum, there is bound to be a sea-change in trouser related fashions, as we all know golfers love to compete in that area! When planning your July visit to Blackpool for 2012 ensure that if you are visiting for the 19th to 22nd of July, when the Open Golf Championship tournament is due to be held, that you book your accommodation in advance. It would be wise to book tickets to shows and attractions a bit earlier than past years too. To play a round of golf at the Lytham-St-Annes course you must book at least 48 hours in advance. If you want to test the course for yourself, why not visit the club? Founded in 1886 there is a fascinating history displayed throughout the main building. If you are a keen golfer you could see if you can beat Bobby Jones’s 66 round, considered by many to be as close to a perfect round of golf that has ever existed. Jones won the tournament in 1926. Make sure that you are ready for the Open Golf Championships of 2012 by preparing thoroughly for golf fever, an ailment that is going to strike Blackpool and Lytham-St-Annes very soon!
